Final Comments

Hello all!
Our project is coming to a fast close. This project has been a rollercoaster of emotions, at many times we were struggling and at times we felt on top of the game. We were forced to put ourselves in a creative mindset that many other classes fail to do. This project has taught us what it is like to work with people, overcome obstacles that seem impossible to overcome, and most importantly to not give up on ideas that seem like we've bit off more than we can chew. I'm proud of us for working so hard and thinking through every decision. It was a pleasure working with Anna and I hope that we can work together again soon.
Thank you for tuning in throughout these 7 weeks.

In-class Peer Meetings

Hello!
Today in class we had our last peer meeting, which is a meeting with my classmates where we each talk about what's going on with our projects and we each give each other feed back. This peer meeting was so incredibly helpful, all of my peers gave great input and i felt in a comfortable and creative environment. My peer did agree that our first trailer was too slow and they gave me pointers as to where to cut clip and what isn't needed. They were also excited about our plot and how it's coming out. They admired the detail that we've put into to making the trailer just how we want it. Something they mentioned that was a critique was the bars and tone "static". They thought it would have been better to include a normal black and white static or as how Maria called it the "ants". Anna had mentioned that it beforehand as well and I for some reason thought that the bars and tone was better, I was proven wrong. Over all, it was really great meeting with my peers and hearing their critiques.
Until next time,
Isa

Update on Progress

Hey!
Today I will be talking about our progress on the project.

Editing:
Trailer 1: about 80% finished, we're needing the music (which has been a pain to find) and some small edits and we're done.
Trailer 2: 95% done, we just need to add our static critiques which are all done, music is found, clip and sound editing is done.

Website:
We haven't even started on the website, which is very frightening.

Poster:
We thought up what it will be and we want it to focus on Ryan the main character. We want it to be about her and her new found passion for filmmaking. We don't have the picture but we have the title and actress' and actor's names set up at the top.

So we are behind as of right now we have a week and a half to do two components and this is giving me anxiety. We're at the home stretch which is great but we still have lots of work to do.
Tune in on Friday for a group meeting review!

Learning Premiere Pro

Hey all!
While editing my partner and I realized that it was extremely difficult to distinguish between the camera footage or older footage and the present footage. On iMovie, it was almost impossible to make professional looking and luckily Anna has Adobe Premiere Pro. She downloaded it on my computer and we used it to make our footage VHS looking. It was so difficult because we didn't know what we were doing and we following a Youtube video that helped us figure out how to do it. After 2 days of editing that footage, we finally finished and added it onto the trailers, and I have to say, I love it.

Here is what the clip looks like with the VHS effects on it.

Here is what the clip looks like without any effects.
In my opinion, we did a great job with that and it will make our piece look professional.

Tune in next time,
Isa

Film Promotion Poster Conventions

Seems a little late for some research right? It's never too late to educate yourself on some research about a big portion of the project! Today I will be researching some conventions for Film Posters.

Film posters are used to advertise a film and give a small piece of the story to the viewer. Making the poster visually attractive is very important because that is what entices people to watch the film. Film posters and target audience go hand in hand because it is essential to create a poster that will attract the intended target audience of the film.

Main Conventions:
  • Attractive poster to captive viewers attention
  • Main image should focus on capturing the essence or a part of the film.
  • The title should be eye-catching and take about a third of the poster
  • The poster should be genre appropriate
  • The poster should include and tagline or release date.
  • The poster should include main actors and or director.
Quotes and Ratings:
  • Including quotes and positive ratings will attract viewer into going and watching the film.
  • "That critic liked it, I must like it too." Subconsciously this is what the viewer is thinking.
  • This Gone With The Wind promo poster has a subtly placed rating that entices the viewer to watch the film because is says "The most magnificent picture ever!"

Taglines:

  • Taglines give an insight on what the film is about and attracts the viewer to watch it.
  • In this Blade Runner poster, the tagline is tiny compared to other text found on the poster. Many probably won't see it.
  • The tagline is "Man has made his match, now its his problem.

Institutional Conventions
  • Near the bottom of the poster is where the actors, directors, writers, etc are mentioned in small font.
  • Posters have 3 main color schemes that are genre specific.
  • Production company mentioned in bottom of poster with the directors, actors, etc.
Here are a couple examples found on empireonline.com
